Design Process

Following the initial historical research and analysis of the book and score, my director and I went to town mining the moods and madness of the piece. The book, a series of sequential vignettes, presents Eva’s humble beginnings, her precipitous and sordid rise to power, heady apotheosis, followed by her swift decline and premature death narrated by a mythic Ché (Guevara) acting as Greek Chorus, critic, and Eva’s alter ego to hold the show together. In response we designed various set pieces to reinforce and support the arc of events, all enshrined within a glossy environment reminiscent of a rock concert.
